Bugzilla – Bug 958100
dropping froxlor from future distributions and Factory/Tumbleweed
Last modified: 2021-03-19 23:19:26 UTC
I'm just wondering if it makes sense to have Froxlor as a package in Factory/Tumbleweed and 42.1 if the latest version has no direct support for openSUSE at all. (I'm currently using it with a lot of custom work but I really wonder if it carries any real value to our users.)
We are planning to add the froxlor related help files for openSUSE Leap 42.1 upstream.
I don't think we'll have any more releases of Leap 42.x, so we can't remove the package from existing Leap releases, but if it's not really useful we can remove it from TW.
I still use it for 42.3 but I also have my own RPM with some basic openSUSE integration. But far too incomplete to feel comfortable with maintaining it in openSUSE.
In my opinion in makes sens to have the latest froxlor version Factory/Tumbleweed to have froxlor ready in the latest openSUSE when released.
I guess people's opinions might vary, but I don't think that a PHP web-based application works that well as a system package, like how we don't have CMS software or other tools like Webmin as a package. It's quite frequent that you'd want to edit the configuration or modify the code directly for customization, unlike 'normal' tools.
