Description Ricardo Gabriel Berlasso 2023-07-01 11:16:44 UTC
Since upgrading to Leap 15.5, sometimes after login to the system in wi-fi I get a "Limited connectivity" error from the network applet under Plasma. Most of the time the session goes on without problems, even if the warning remains for the whole session, but a couple of times the system disconnected itself from the network.

Restart doesn't fix the warning, but if I issue

systemctl restart network

the warning disappear and the session goes on without problems.

As suggested here:

https://forums.opensuse.org/t/network-manager-is-there-a-problem-in-15-5/167309

it may be a timing issue during network initialization.

Since reporting the issue, I experienced the problem on other systems with Leap 15.5 on both, wired and wifi connections. The experience of other users in the forums confirm that. Changing the summary to reflect the situation.

Might be the same as bug 1199964.

Does the issue disapear if you uninstall "nscd" and reboot?

Maybe? After uninstalling nscd, the system booted without the warning, but the problem was quite random so just to be sure I'll test this for a few days before clearing the "needinfo" tag.

Tested for a couple of days on two systems and now I can confirm that uninstalling nscd solved the warnings and, it seems, the occasional disconnection of the wifi I experienced.

Ok, reassigning to glibc maintainers. Maybe SP5 needs the fix for https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=29415 as well.

It probably won't have an effect on wifi disconnection though.

Do you see any crashes of NetworkManager in the logs?

(Not really sure what I'm doing here, just looked on internet how to check for networkmanager logs)

If I issue

journalctl -f -u NetworkManager

I only get info for the current session, no errors there. On /var/log/ the last entry for networkmanager is from April, before the upgrade.
Comment 8 Fabian Vogt 2023-07-20 06:38:02 UTC
There was another report of this issue on IRC, disabling/removing nscd fixed it.

Please backport the fix.

Why do you suspect a NM issue?
